Aug 01, 2007 |
Kingsley Holgate's Afrika Outside Edge expedition has entered its fifth month but is still going strong. The expedition, which is circumnavigating Africa, finally reached Vestergaard Frandsen territory in Nigeria. Partnering with USAID and several other organizations, VF donated 3,000 PermaNet® to beneficiaries within the states in Nigeria as proposed by the expedition team.
The program kicked off with the Afrika Outside Edge's August 14th entry into Nigeria through the Ekok border in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State. Upon arrival, the team was met and welcomed by all the key sponsors of the event, including VF, British Airways, UAC/Nandos, SFH and USAID/COMPASS. |

In addition to 3,000 PermaNet®, Vestergaard Frandsen provided a PermaNet® road show truck to help in demonstrating proper net use for two days. Kingsley Holgate was so impressed with the truck that he asked for permission to allow it to be part of his convoy to the remaining villages in Badagry and finally on to the Nigeria / Benin border.

Across the nation of Nigeria, word of the nets and the expedition team has spread. The Oba Akran of Badagry, the royal father, received 500 PermaNet® and his endorsement of the expedition is sure to have a lasting effect on malaria awareness and net use efforts in the future. |

Stay tuned as Kingsley and his team continue their amazing journey. Once safely into Benin, they'll make their way through Togo and on into Ghana. The team's next big event will take place in Accra, where Vestergaard Frandsen will donate another several thousand PermaNet® to be distributed to those who need them most. |
