Massive Kenyan Concert on January 20th Kicks-off Global Celebration for Inauguration of Barack Obama Muliro Gardens in Kakamega to Host First Inauguration Party 11 AM - 3 PM Local Time FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE KAKAMEGA, Kenya, January 19 - Vestergaard Frandsen, the Swiss manufacturer of disease control textiles, will sponsor a major concert in Kakamega, Kenya on January 20, 2009 to celebrate the Presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. Kakamega is just north of Kisumu, the ancestral home province of Barack Obama's father. Award-wining artists set to perform include South African musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and numerous Kenyan musicians. Local authorities anticipate a crowd of more than 50,000 people to attend. The Kenyan Ministry of Health was an official partner in the IPD campaign, and MOH-trained counselors conducted the testing. More than 50,000 residents participated in the IPD, and nearly all took a voluntary HIV test. Among those tested, 2,016 learned they were HIV positive. Of all people tested, 3% of males tested positive for HIV, 7% of females. "We are thrilled to host this once-in-a-lifetime event and to be among the first in the world to usher in the Presidency of Barack Obama," said Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, the CEO of the family company that bears his name. "We have a long and proud history of working in Kenya to prevent malaria and diarrhoeal disease, and recently conducted a mass HIV testing campaign in Kakamega, so sponsoring a concert here to welcome the new President who will champion the prevention of these diseases is very exciting." The concert will be held at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega from 11 AM to 3 PM local time.
