New York, NY—Responding to yesterday's earthquake in Haiti, Vestergaard Frandsen moved quickly today to pledge donations of its award-winning LifeStraw® water filtration tools and PermaNet® bed nets to relief and development agencies for the prevention of waterborne and vector-borne disease outbreaks.

"News reports from the Haitian capital and countryside show massive devastation from the earthquake,” observed Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, CEO of the Vestergaard Frandsen Group. “We are working at full speed to supply our partners with tools they need to contain the spread of disease that often follows natural disasters. We encourage those interested in joining our efforts to donate to one of the many organizations providing relief for the people of Haiti."

LifeStraw® is a portable water filter for prevention of common diarrheal disease; it can be carried around the neck for easy access to safe and clean drinking water outside the home. Vestergaard Frandsen developed LifeStraw® as a practical way of preventing disease and saving lives, and it is especially well suited for use in emergency situations.

The household version of the product, LifeStraw® Family, is an instant microbiological water purifier with a high flow rate, efficacy as per US EPA standards and longevity of more than 18,000 liters.

PermaNet® Long-lasting Insecticidal Nets (LNs) and Net Curtains prevent the threat of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis, filariasis and Chagas disease.
