Insecticide Resistance a Priority on the Global Health Agenda
The Global Plan on Insecticide Resistance Management (GPIRM) was launched on 15 May 2012 by the Global Malaria Programme at WHO in Geneva. The GPIRM represents input that has been gathered and synthesized from over 130 stakeholders from all constituencies of the malaria control community. The overall goal of the GPIRM is to maintain effectiveness of vector control tools by putting forward a comprehensive strategy at the global and country levels. The need for a global database on insecticide resistance data was mentioned by several experts as critical to the successful coordination of all efforts as well as the need to develop standardised procedures for testing tools designed for use with resistant malaria vectors.
