Innovative Financing Mechanisms for Health and Development

LifeStraw® Carbon For Water program uses carbon financing to provide sustainable access to safe drinking water. In Western Province, Kenya, nearly 900,000 LifeStraw Family were distributed door to door. Instead of boiling their water to purify it, Kenyans can now purify their water without firewood.  The over four million residents in Kenya who receive LifeStraw® Family water filters no longer have to treat water by boiling it using wood, which generate greenhouse gases. This behavioral change is expected to produce more than two million tons of carbon emission reductions annually.
